Dr. Martin Muyingo
Head Teacher, Makerere College School
Dr. Martin Muyingo is a distinguished Ugandan educationist, researcher and school administrator with more than three decades of experience in teaching, educational leadership and institutional management. His career has progressed from classroom teaching to senior leadership positions, including service as Deputy Head Teacher, Acting Head Teacher and Head Teacher in different secondary schools.
He has served as the Head Teacher of Makerere College School since 2015. During his tenure, he has provided strategic leadership in academic management, staff development, student discipline, institutional planning and the overall advancement of the school. His leadership is guided by a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, accountability and the holistic development of learners.
Dr. Muyingo holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Makerere University, completed in 2025. His doctoral research focused on “Teachers’ Perception of Transferred Head Teachers’ Emotional Intelligence Competences in Central Uganda Government Secondary Schools.” His academic work reflects his strong interest in educational leadership, emotional intelligence, teacher management and effective school administration.
In addition to his responsibilities at Makerere College School, Dr. Muyingo is involved in university teaching and currently lectures at Ndejje University and Muteesa I Royal University. Through these engagements, he contributes to the training and professional development of future educators, administrators and education leaders.
Dr. Muyingo has held several leadership positions in professional, educational, community and faith-based organisations. He serves as Chairperson of the Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda, Kampala Chapter, and Chairperson of the Uganda Commonwealth Council for Education Administration and Management. He is also a Corporate Member of the Uganda Association of Public Administrators and Managers.
His other responsibilities include serving as the Representative of the Bishop of Namirembe on the Synod, Community Representative on the College of Business and Management Sciences Research and Ethics Committee, Member of the School Management Committee of Namirembe Primary School, and Chairperson of the Finance Committee of Buloba Primary Teachers’ College.
Previously, he served as Chairperson of SESEMAT Kampala District and National Chairperson of the Church of Uganda Heads of Educational Institutions Association. These responsibilities demonstrate his continued contribution to education policy, professional development, institutional governance and community service.
Dr. Muyingo has participated in numerous national and international educational leadership programmes and conferences. He attended the 12th Convention of the International Confederation of Principals in Helsinki, Finland, in 2015, under the theme “Leading Educational Design.” He also participated in the International Confederation of Principals World Convention held in Mombasa, Kenya, in 2024.
His international professional exposure includes educational and leadership engagements in the United States of America, France, India, Portugal, Sweden, Italy, Zambia, Turkey, China, Eswatini, the United Kingdom, Kenya and other countries. These experiences have enabled him to interact with education leaders from different systems, exchange knowledge and benchmark effective practices in school leadership and management.
As Head Teacher, Dr. Muyingo remains committed to strengthening Makerere College School as a centre of academic excellence, discipline, innovation and responsible citizenship. He believes in collaborative leadership, continuous professional development and providing learners with the knowledge, values and skills required to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
