Makerere College School has produced a number of distinguished personalities in public service, economics, education, media, science and entertainment. Among the prominent former students are:
Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu – Former Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, former President of the Forum for Democratic Change, and leader in national politics. He attended Makerere College School for A-Level
Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile (late) – Distinguished economist, former Governor of the Bank of Uganda, former Makerere University Guild President, and a major contributor to Uganda’s economic reforms. He attended Makerere College School for A-Level from 1968 to 1969.
Hon. Syda Bbumba – Former Minister of Finance and former Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development. She is recognised as an old student of Makerere College School.
Hon. John Chrysostom Muyingo – Educationist and public servant who has served as Uganda’s State Minister for Higher Education and State Minister for Primary Education.
Bebe Cool (Moses Ssali) – Renowned Ugandan musician, performer and entertainment entrepreneur. He studied at Makerere College School, where he was active in entertainment.
Crystal Newman – Accomplished radio and television personality, master of ceremonies and media entrepreneur. She has spoken of her time as a student at Makerere College School.
Dr. Israel Kibirige Ssebunya (late) – Cytogeneticist, agricultural researcher, former Director of Kawanda Agricultural Research Institute, Member of Parliament for Kyaddondo North, and State Minister for Agriculture.
Prof. Stephen Isabalija – Management consultant, accountant and university administrator; formerly Vice Chancellor of Victoria University Uganda and associated with leadership in national institutions.
Lillian Mary Nabulime – Accomplished Ugandan sculptor, visual artist and university lecturer, widely recognised for her contribution to art education and public sculpture.
Joshua Baraka – Young Ugandan recording artist, songwriter and music producer who has gained regional and international recognition in contemporary music.
These alumni demonstrate the breadth of the Makerere College School legacy: leadership in public service, excellence in economics and education, innovation in science, influence in media, and creativity in the arts. They provide strong role models for learners to live the school motto: “Be Known by Works.”
