Makerere College School is a co-educational government aided O and A- level school founded in 1945 by Makerere University.

On Sunday 30th October 2022, Makerere College school held a dedication service at the Mulawa campus where the senior six candidates were laid into the hands of the Lord for blessings and guidance as they prepare to sit for their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education Examinations (UACE).

A team of men of God from both the Islamic and Anglican faiths including Sheikh Fauzi Semwanga of Makerere University Main Mosque, madam Mariam Namutebi, Father Johnathan and Reverend Onesimus Asiimwe team leader St. Augustine chapel Makerere university presided over the colourful event dedicating the students, teachers, parents, school and stakeholders to God for resilience during and until the end of the exercise.

Sheikh Fauzi Semwanga led the Muslim fraternity in making the dua and supplications to Allah for guidance on the path to success also reminded learners of how religion prioritises knowledge seeking as it is a must for every Muslim to look for knowledge and share it as well. “Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was illiterate but endured a lot in seeking knowledge and now he is being recognized as the most literate and learnt being on earth”. Added sheikh Fauza who urged students to emulate him, pray hard and then Allah shall guide them in their examinations.

On the other hand, Reverend Asiimwe, an old boy of Macos class of 1987, gave the sermon on a theme of the day, “Thus far the lord has got us” commended the school administration, especially the head teacher and deputy in charge of curriculum for their contribution in connecting the school and the chapel, he acknowledged the development in both processes and structures over time.
Onesmus told students that accountability breeds responsibility and the students are yet to be evaluated for the investment they have had, he advised them to work harder in the remaining time to polish their performance not forgetting to trust in God, and be responsible and accountable, especially after the examinations.

Onesimus referenced “Time lost is never gained,” with a quote “Any opportunity of a lifetime must be ceased within the lifetime of that opportunity.” He advised students to lay a success strategy and cautioned students from cheating exams but rather to read their books instead of being on social media.

Onesimus came along with three ladies one of whom was an old girl from the school, these inspired students by sharing their academic experience, achievements and dance moves as they led the congregation in singing praises to God.

Madam Nalukenge welcomed guests for attendance of the service with special appreciation to the religious leaders in attendance, the first reading was made by Siyabonga Deborah, John 4:1-8 and the second reading was by Mulondo Joel, Deuteronomy 32:18-20.

Tumwebaze Simon in the company of the prefectorial body represented the candidates thanked the school administration and the teachers for the support they have offered for the last seven years, and shared the moments and challenges they have had during the course of their time.

Ms Kasana, the PTA executive representative who happens to be an old girl from the school class of 1993 and a parent of one of the candidates gave an emotional speech with thanks to God for bringing the school this far, she offered a cake and success card to the candidates and wished them success in their forthcoming exams.

The Headteacher welcomed and thanked members of the clergy, the deputies, deans, teachers, parents, students and distinguished guests emphasized the words of the deputy in charge of curriculum about forgiving the candidates for whatever has gone wrong during their time, cautioned students about avoiding obstacles they face.
He reflected on the situation of the economy and the hardships the school is facing but dedicated the same to God for resiliency until the end of the year.
The session ended with cutting the cake with everyone in the congregation convinced that the Lord had heard and will answer our players.
